When is Father’s Day?

Father’s Day is celebrated every third Sunday in June of every year. This year, Father’s Day will be Sun, 16 Jun 2024.

It is a celebration that commemorates one’s father or a significant father figure, as well as fatherhood, paternal connections, and fathers’ influence in society.

Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Spokane, Washington, started Father’s Day. She was inspired to start Father’s Day after attending Mother’s Day church service in 1909.

Dodd was the daughter of William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran who raised her and her siblings as a single parent. She believed that fathers deserved their own special Day of celebration, so she launched a successful campaign, and that is how Father’s Day came about.
