When is a Type Rting Required?

Any aircraft with a turbojet engine or weighing more than 12,500 pounds MGTOW is required to have a type rating. Ratings also exist for operating privileges (instrument rating, for example).

A license type rating is a designation that proves the holder’s ability to operate that specific model and type of aircraft. Depending on the aircraft operation’s complexity, purpose, and extent, type ratings might be specialized or broad.

However, being proficient with the systems of a certain aircraft is not the only need for a type rating. There must also be some practical training involved.
